Elliot's Big Girl chart

So no picture with this post, frown, but I'm too lazy!

I've been struggling with Elliot's lack of interest in becoming independent lately. Don't all 4 year olds want to do things themselves? Some things she wants too,but usually those are the things I don't want her too. Like salting her own food at dinner...not a good idea.

But mostly it's "you do it" which includes: seat belts, getting dressed, going potty at home (she wants to be walked there, lights turned on for her, and bum wiped), cleaning up, and any chore like task. Grrr... I've been pulling my hair out, especially the bathroom issue, she will pee her pants if I don't escort her to the bathroom and turn on the light for her!!! She isn't just pre occupied with toys, no she will be potty dancing outside of the bathroom waiting for me.

Thank goodness for CHARTS! A Few simple boxes on a piece of paper and the promise of a trip to the dollar store and my 4 year old is on her way to independence. She'll do anything for a smiley face in one of the wonderful boxes. She even went to the bathroom without even telling me yesterday. Heavenly. She's already filled one chart and is working on her second.

Love love love charts. Using charts has worked with all of my kids except one.......OSCAR! We were potty training and I found his chart in the garbage. When I asked him about it he casually said, "I'm done." My mouth wide open....what do you say to that???

I'm laughing because although my issues are a little different, like buying pullups for the past 9 months... I'm glad I'm not the only who struggles with those little "mommy" issues! Good luck!

My Sage was the same way about the potty issue. She wanted me to escort her, turn on the light..annyoing. I love charts and rewards, they are great motivators.

Well mom it looks like she has learned the trick. Bribery isn't all bad.
